Jibes - Term Definition

Hi Matthias,

Where can an I find jibes stats term definitions for:

  • Planing (I think that is self-explanatory)
  • Non-planing (not sure what it includes)
  • Missed (don’t understand that one).

Here is the common scenario:

  • I enter the jibe planing, but I stall (not fall, but drop below the 11.7mph threshold) upon exit. It is different than just doing a plain sailing jibe, but how does it get recorded? Non-planing or Missed?

Thanks for the clarification.

Hi,

  • Planing
fully planing in out and during the jibe

  • Non-planing
normal jibe, at least one of in out or during is not planing.

  • Missed
the jibe failed, you fall into water independent if you tried a planing jibe or non-planing jibe

it helps you to know how you make progress. As a Beginner you will count the jibes. ones you can jibe you will go for the planing jibe.

So your example would be a non-planing jibe.

does it make sense?
best

Thanks Matthias for the clarification.

In V2 (2.x.x) jibe analytics got a significant upgrade. Each jibe is now shown on the track with entry, mid, and exit speed plus angle to wind. Statistics are also broken down separately for port and starboard jibes.
