Missed Jibes stats

Hi team,

The number of missed gybes that the app shows in all my sessions doesn’t look correct.
I am not a great gyber and I don’t disagree that my gybes may not qualify as full planning, but I don’t miss too many, I close most of them and keep sailing.
What is the criteria that the app uses for Missed Jibes?

Thanks,
Igor

Igor,

if possible please send me a GPX example file, so I can have a closer look at what might be the reason.

Missed jibes, should just be the ones where you fall into the water, so if there are too many, I need to check the data what could be the cause.

best

Just sent an e-mail with the GPX file of a recent session where I only missed 1 but app shows missed 6. Thanks.

Some sessions show I tried and failed far more gybes that I attempted. I think that occurs when winging I ride a swell so so change direction by maybe 60 degrees, ride a wave, then turn back to the original direction. The app seems to think I was trying to gybe.
Another ‘error’ creeps in when during a gybe there may be one date point showing a speed of say 3 knots and denotes this as a non-flying gybe whereas it is a common variation GPS records at 1s interval

I have also experienced that when I windsurf tack the app takes it as a missed jibe, but I am not even attempting to jibe, I am just tacking  .
Maybe an improvement could be that the app only considers as jibe when you turn following a downwind track.
Cheers

Hi,
I haven’t received any email. can you maybe send it again?

Hi,

Could you send me a GPX file so I can take a closer look? support@sunbits.de

In any case, I will further improve the algorithm once the V2 is released.

In the second case, if the GPS accuracy is poor, that could explain why the data is incorrect. However, if the accuracy is fine and the speed is too slow, this will not be counted as a flying jibe.

I know that GPS could have an issue if you turn too quickly and too sharply. However, this is a technical limitation at the moment. It also depends on how you hold your phone while recording. It is less likely to happen if you wear it on your upper arm, where there is a clear view of the sky.

However, as I said, I want to improve the algorithms even further.

Does that make sense?

hmm, if your tacks get counted as failed jibes, this seems to me that the wind direction is not correct.

Have you tried to adjust the wind direction ?
