Poor data quality

To improve data quality with your Garmin, a few settings matter:

Recording interval: Set to 1 second (1 Hz). This is the most important change — anything less will reduce GPS track resolution significantly.

Auto Pause: Disable it. Auto pause can cut GPS recording mid-session, which creates gaps in your data.

Multi-band GPS: Enable it if your watch supports it. More robust signal, especially in choppy conditions.

Satellite system: If Multi-band is off, pick the best system for your region:

  • Europe: GPS + Galileo
  • Asia: GPS + Glonass
  • Elsewhere: GPS + Galileo is generally a solid default (global coverage)
