Poor data quality

Hello,

I have a question: how can I improve data quality?

I have a Garmin Instinct 3. When I go kitesurfing, it’s programmed to use all satellites + multiband.

Even so, the data quality shows a deplorable score (4.7 on my last session) every time. I imagine this impacts the quality of the analysis WST performs.

To improve data quality with your Garmin, a few settings matter:

Recording interval: Set to 1 second (1 Hz). This is the most important change — anything less will reduce GPS track resolution significantly.

Auto Pause: Disable it. Auto pause can cut GPS recording mid-session, which creates gaps in your data.

Multi-band GPS: Enable it if your watch supports it. More robust signal, especially in choppy conditions.

Satellite system: If Multi-band is off, pick the best system for your region:

  • Europe: GPS + Galileo
  • Asia: GPS + Glonass
  • Elsewhere: GPS + Galileo is generally a solid default (global coverage)

I think I’ve found where to set the recording frequency (but I’m not really sure).
I just have to wait for a future flight to check if I found it correctly

Thank you very much for your quick response and help :+1:.

same here, just bought a garmin instainct 3 solar

GPS+multiband enabled

But WST says “Very Poor” :frowning:

Could you check two settings on your Garmin Instinct 3 — ideally both in the general system settings and in the specific activity profile you use for tracking with WST:

  1. Recording interval set to 1 second (not “Smart” or “Auto”)
  2. Auto Pause disabled

These settings sometimes differ between the global defaults and individual activity profiles, so it’s worth verifying both places. Let us know if that changes the quality rating!

I finally found the reconding interval in the menus
I’ll try that.

I couldn’t find the auto-pause, it’s not in the settings menus for Waterspeed actitivity type or Windsurfing activity type.

I can confirm that the diagnosis is correct… I also went from “very poor” to 1.2, very good

it depends a bit on the model, not every setting is on the activity, some are just global settings, some are double.

that was it, works great now.
