I lost many unsecured windsport tracker files due to a cell phone defect. Since I track in parallel with a Garmin Fenix 5, I have now exported the gmx files of the affected sessions from Garmin Connect and imported them into the Windsport Tracker. This works without any problems for the individual sessions, but no Vmax value is displayed in the annual statistics (it is displayed for the individual sessions, though).
For example, I exported 9 sessions from Garmin for 2020. However, the VMax there is still displayed as 0. The same applies to the average speed.
I’m sorry you lost your sessions. To prevent this from happening in the future, there is already a solution with version 2, which is currently still in development.
Regarding the Garmin sessions.
The problem is that unfortunately no speed values are included when exporting GPX from Garmin. The speed therefore has to be calculated. However, this calculation is quite inaccurate, or not the calculation itself but the results.
To ensure that the statistics are not affected by potentially completely incorrect values, I have decided not to use these calculated speeds in the statistics. It would be annoying if, for example, a value of 80km/h appeared and thus made the entire statistics worthless.
In version 2, the Garmin issue will also be resolved.
In the meantime, there is an interim solution.
For this, you need to export the original files from Garmin. It may be that it is a ZIP archive, which you then need to unpack until you have the FIT file.
With
you can then convert this FIT file into a GPX file, during which the speeds are then exported into the GPX file and are thus usable for WindsportTracker.
This sounds more complicated than it is; once you’ve done it, it goes quite quickly afterwards.
If there aren’t too many sessions, this would be a current solution.
Yes, thank you very much. That helped (it took me a while to find the time to implement it).
At first glance, I didn’t find GPSBabel super self-explanatory and had to experiment a bit. Here’s a quick guide in case someone else has the same problem:
Export from Garmin Original
Unzip the file
Also export the gpx file from Garmin
In GPSBabel, select FIT as the input and choose the GPX file exported from Garmin as the output.
