Garmin Connection V2

In the web version, there is an option to connect with Garmin. I track my sessions in Windsporttracker and in Garmin. Will the sessions be imported twice during the update to V2 and active connection to Garmin?

In the V2, two sessions would then be recorded in the logbook in your case. One recorded with the phone and one recorded with Garmin.

The connection with Garmin ensures that when something is recorded with Garmin, it is automatically transferred to Windsporttracker. Both sessions can be distinguished because the info area indicates the source of the data. Additionally, with an existing Garmin connection, you can specify which sport and discipline should be automatically assigned, and which sessions should be imported at all (for example, you can exclude other activities like running, cycling, etc., from the import into WST).

Does that help you?

Thank you for the quick response. I haven’t quite connected the two sentences:

“The connection with Garmin ensures that when something is recorded with Garmin, it is automatically transferred to Windsporttracker.” and

“Additionally, with an existing Garmin connection, you can specify which sport and discipline should be automatically assigned, and which sessions should be imported at all (for example, you can exclude other activities like running, cycling, etc., from the import into WST).”

Does the import start automatically, or can I first choose what I want to import? Then I could possibly also exclude windsurfing, or is that not possible?

If a Garmin connection has been set up, the import always starts automatically.

If a Garmin connection has been set up, you can specify which sport type future automatic imports should be automatically assigned to. You can also set a filter that only imports sessions from Garmin that match the filter.

If you only want to record your windsurfing sessions in Garmin but not in WST, simply do NOT set up a Garmin connection.

The Garmin connection is only needed if you want to automatically import sessions recorded with a Garmin device into WST. Without this automatic import, you would always have to first export the data via the Garmin website and then re-import the unpacked zip file (V2 supports the Garmin FIT file format).

What exactly do you want to achieve?
Record only in WST with WST.
Record only in Garmin with Garmin.

or:
Record in WST with WST.
and additionally
Record with Garmin and transfer to WST?

Thank you for the quick and detailed response. I primarily record my sessions in Windsporttracker (by the way, a super great app :slightly_smiling_face:). Garmin is just a backup in case the phone fails, for direct reading, e.g., of the top speed during the session, as well as a few values that V1 hasn’t provided so far. But I probably won’t need the latter with V2 anymore. I’m looking forward to the new app and am excited to see what it can do better than the current one.

I would then only import individual sessions if the WspT recording is missing. My concern here was initially just that I wouldn’t unintentionally duplicate sessions. You have answered that in detail and perfectly clarified my questions. Thank you very much for that :+1:.
