Data transfer when switching phones?

Hello Matthias,

I’ve only been using the app for a short time, but so far I’m thrilled!
But I just asked myself, how do you get the data on another phone?! I’m due for a change soon.

Best regards
Ingolf

Hello Ingolf,

I’m glad to hear that.

To transfer the data, some manual work is currently still required (I am already working on an automatic transfer)

Specifically, you need to proceed as follows:

On Phone 1, export your sessions, click on the menu in your session list (3 dots in the top right corner) and select “Export all”.
Then use Google Drive or DropBox and upload the files there.
The exported files are located on Android <=9 in WindsportTracker/export/2020/gpx

Please note that you import each year and that you especially save the GPX files.

On Phone 2, now open Google Drive or DropBox etc., select all your saved files and then select “Send to” or “Open with”.
Then choose WindsportTracker as the app. Google Drive will now send all files to WindsportTracker on Phone 2.

It sounds complicated, but it’s very simple once you’ve done it once.
It’s best to save each session to Google Drive immediately after each session.
You can do this when you have the session open, then click on the share icon in the top menu. Then select Google Drive as the destination. If the share menu doesn’t open, wait a bit and click on it several times, or close and reopen the session if necessary.

It’s important, as I said, that you save and then reload the GPX files. Because only the GPX files contain all your values like notes, your equipment, the rating, etc.

Your equipment will also be saved and reloaded in this way. Only if you have equipment on Phone 1 that you have never used, it will not be exported and cannot be imported.
In this case, you will need to create it again on Phone 2.

I hope I was able to help you with this.
As I said, I’m currently working on a way to make this possible automatically or more easily.

Best regards

This issue is no longer present in Version 2.
You just need to log in with your account on the other device—everything is immediately available.
The whole thing also works in the browser, where you can benefit from a large monitor for analysis.
